I'm just an ecclectic oddball, with a thousand interests. As a geek, I have a deep interest in the reasons for why things are done a certain way in each discpline. I find the most incredible parallels across food, coffee, bbq, business and faith. Everything really is connected. I am a South Indian by ethnicity but have lived in various places overseas for much of my life. Some of those include the US, UK, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore. My palate has been developed on my travels throughout Asia, so I tend to be a bit adventurous. I've spent most of my career in Banking, mostly in Risk Management. I started my career in Technology, moving to Operational Risk, and my journey has encompassed almost every single non financial risk discpline at this point. I am also a once failed entrepreneur trying to give it a second go. I absolutely focus on innovation as I think there are always better ways to do things, and a good solution can positively impact all participants. That said, life is always a journey, it is best to slow down and take time to smell the roses along the way :).

Its March, and the growing season is upon us. A key activity we have to undertake in our garden in Spring, is the dreaded “pruning”. Some thoughts on pruning trees and the parallels to our life.

Easy Jajangmyeon

DoubleTrouble  |  March 5, 2021March 22, 2021

A true family favorite is Jajangmyeon, which is a Korean black bean sauce noodles with pork belly. The “Myeon” refers to the noodles, although this can also be cooked with rice (Ja Jang Bap). For noodles, we used to buy a fresh homestyle noodles from H Mart, but given that jajangmyeon is not an every…

Waxing lyrical about Fraud Risk and controls

DoubleTrouble  |  March 4, 2021March 4, 2021

We can learn a lot from reading about control breakdowns in the news. As risk managers, whenever we look at the headlines, we put our risk hats on and wonder “where was the control breakdown, and how would we mitigate that risk”. It is a strange thing that our career is so ingrained that it…

Cyberpunk 2077 – Risk Management Lessons

DoubleTrouble  |  March 4, 2021March 4, 2021

They say you can take the risk manager out of risk management, but you can’t ever take risk management out of the risk manager… Actually, no one says that, but it is true. My early Christmas gift was a stadia membership and controller as part of the Cyberpunk 2077 launch. In watching the storm of…

A pot of gumbo with a side of mindfulness

DoubleTrouble  |  March 4, 2021March 4, 2021

As I was stirring up a roux (which forms the base of my gumbo) for family dinner, it struck me that the “mindfulness” which we hear about these days doesn’t require more books or a trip to the app store, it can be found right in your home. Stick with me on this one, like…

Go-to Broiled Salmon (or Trout!)

DoubleTrouble  |  March 4, 2021March 20, 2021

Absolutely the go-to method for cooking skin on salmon. While we use various marinades, broiling salmon creates a beautiful crispy crust with an absolutely moist, cooked, fish.

Hey look, I know it sounds wierd. Tasted really good, but I can’t argue with the wierdness. It works, just don’t tell anyone what it contains.
